Artistry in Bronze: The Greeks and Their Legacy XIXth International Congress on Ancient Bronzes

The papers in this volume derive from the proceedings of the nineteenth International Bronze Congress, held at the Getty Center and Villa in October 2015 in connection with the exhibition Power and Pathos: Bronze Sculpture of the Hellenistic World. The study of large-scale ancient bronzes has long focused on aspects of technology and production. Analytical work of materials, processes, and techniques has significantly enriched our understanding of the medium. Most recently, the restoration history of bronzes has established itself as a distinct area of investigation. How does this scholarship bear on the understanding of bronzes within the wider history of ancient art? How do these technical data relate to our ideas of styles and development? How has the material itself affected ancient and modern perceptions of form, value, and status of works of art?  www.getty.edu/publications/artistryinbronze

Spiral Jetta Summer: Swimming in the Great Salt Lake (Chicago Shorts)

Erin Hogan hit the road in her Volkswagen Jetta and headed west from Chicago in search of the monuments of American land art: a salty coil of rocks, four hundred stainless steel poles, a gash in a mesa, four concrete tubes, and military sheds filled with cubes. Her completed journey took her through the states of Utah, Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona, and Texas. It also took her through the states of anxiety, drunkenness, disorientation, and heat exhaustion. Spiral Jetta Summer is a chronicle of this adventure, and it reveals Hogan’s unpretentious and boisterous narrative flair on the roads of middle-of-nowhere Utah in pursuit of Robert Smithson’s classic work Spiral Jetty. Along the way, Hogan writes about venturing outside of her urban comfort zone; who she encounters; and most importantly, how she found most of what she was looking for and then some.

Revival of Mother Mill : Gedser Wind Turbine a?? 2021

August 2019, the book "Gedser Wind Turbine - Revival of Mother Mill" was published with the positive news that from September 30, 2019, we would be able to start the project: Reconstruction and Operation of Gedser Wind Turbine. But no. That's not how it went. The company, that had leased the operation of a newer wincon-nacelle mounted on the old mill tower, broke the legally concluded settlement. The agreed removal of the Wincon-nacelle on September 30, 2019, did not take place. This book describes the further course of justice, in which we, thanks to skilled lawyer assistance, finally secured the historic tower from being blown to pieces. The book includes the history of the Gedser Wind Turbine, newspaper clippings and the presentation of facilities at the mill area. The outbreak of Covid-19 in 2020, of course, influenced the events and activities around Gedser Wind Turbine.Still, we managed to form the Association: Operation of the Gedser Wind Turbine.Furthermore, we re-established contact with previous partners. And while we were awaiting the lawyer to conclude the case, we started the build of a shelter, based on recycled materials provided by local supporters. The shelter is associated with the mill project. Also associated with the project, we expanded Gedser Ginkgo Soundgarden with more wind sculptures. The wind sculptures convert wind power into music and serve as a prelude to the planned Offshore Symphony, designed by Frank Pecquet (Sorbonne University, Paris). Moreover, the many visitors to the mill area resulted in contact with artists who wanted to exhibit their works in our barn. The building includes a gallery and a museum for the Gedser Wind Turbine. All in all, we are now – as the legal case is concluded - in a position to launch the Revival of Mother Mill in 2021, despite the continued Covid-19 restrictions.
